Employee Spotlight – Melissa Roark

When CEO Mark Drinnon introduced Melissa Roark to Horizon Credit Union, she knew instantly that this was the place she needed to be working. After discussing employment with her husband, Melissa felt it was time for a change in her life; it was time to find a new direction and to accomplish the dreams she had held onto for many years.

“I said a little prayer and asked God to put me where He wanted me,” she explained, “and I’ve never looked back.”

Horizon Credit Union gave her the opportunity to reach the goals that she had set back in the 1990s for herself and her life’s vocation. With smiles, a personal touch and Member Services that goes above and beyond, Melissa has found her calling in life.

Mount Carmel Branch Manager Melissa Roark has been at Horizon Credit Union for three years now and has worked hard to make the new Mount Carmel Branch of Horizon Credit Union friendly, inviting and comfortable for both employees and members who enter the doors.

“Our members are greeted with a smile, a wave, and the use of their name,” explained Melissa. “We get to know our people and treat them just like they’re family members. Our members feel comfortable, know that they’ll be treated with kindness, and that their wants and needs will be actively heard.”

Hailing from the Keplar section of Hawkins County, Melissa brings with her values that many larger institutions don’t have.

“We give personal attention to our members that sets us apart,” she continued. From dancing in the lobby with the child of a member to undivided attention to members who want to see their dreams come true, Melissa and her staff set the atmosphere as soon as members come through the doors. Working from a background of honesty and integrity, Melissa and her staff find answers and solutions quickly and efficiently for their members.

Back in the early 90s I decided that I wanted to make loans, Melissa shared. “I love helping people and seeing the look on their faces when I save them money or help them get something that they want or need is priceless.”

And Melissa doesn’t just look at the “numbers.” She considers payment history, income and job stability as she works on securing a loan for a member. “Our members are not just a name or a number; they are part of our extended family,” said

Melissa. “I work diligently to help people reach their goals.”

Horizon Credit Union offers savings and checking accounts, loans, CDs, IRAs and direct deposit services for its members.

“We have everything that all of the other financial institutions have, but we add a hometown touch that they don’t have. We

call our members by name and consider them family.” Balancing personal and professional strategies, Melissa Roark is making a difference in the financial lives of her members at Horizon Credit Union

Employee Spotlight – Vicky Fields

Vicky Fields, Director of Mortgage Lending has many years of experience in Mortgage Lending. Vicky states that the thing that sets Horizon Credit Union apart from other lenders, is her ability to find the right solution for the borrower instead of trying to fit everyone into one set category. Vicky can listen during the application process and determine the path she needs to produce a superior loan for the Member.

Mortgage advice and true concern are critical during the loan process. Vicky, Sandy and Dana, our Mortgage lending team, promise to provide personal service throughout the entire process. Horizon Credit Union seldom sells a Mortgage Loan. Our goal is to keep our Member’s Mortgage loan in house so that when you have a question, we have your original file. We think it means a lot when you call our team and someone you know helps instead of calling a cold contact toll free number. Horizon Credit Union offers: • Purchase funds for new purchases • FHA and VA loans • Cash out refinances – or interest rate reducing loans • Home Equity Line of Credit loans • Vacant Land Loans

Employee Spotlight – Jeff Lane

Jeff LaneLike many of us, Jeff wears a lot of hats too, and that’s another reason why we continue to grow and expand our horizons. There is something deeper too about Jeff – you can hear him almost anywhere these days as he’s quite the musician and singer/songwriter.

You might say that Jeff is a true Southern Gentleman. He is slow to speak, looks you right in the eyes and has a true passion to learn as much as he can from each industry expert he encounters. Jeff came to the credit union with a distinctive set of talents; he is a successful entrepreneur, a restauranteur, marketing pro, digital media consultant and a brilliant part of our marketing and information technology departments.

A graduate of Sullivan North High School, Jeff’s career has made him quite the renaissance man. He has grown through the many experiences and lessons that life teaches us, both the good and the bad. Jeff is highly focused and describes his job as constant change as he deals with compliance issues and the many changing facets of credit union cyber security.

“When I first started working with Beverly as a marketing consultant several years ago, I always enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. I quickly realized that everybody working at the credit union, even Bev, was just plain-ole good people with a passion for helping people with their finances. In other words, no big corporate attitudes or airs, like you would expect from a typical financial institution. It wasn’t long before I was working on so many different projects that Beverly and COO Mark Drinnon created a position for me. The new IT/Marketing Director job was the first of its kind for Horizon Credit Union. From the onset of my career here I haven’t had a dull moment, especially on the Information Technology side of the job. Nonetheless, it feels great to be a part of a team where everyone carries their own weight and cares tremendously about the credit union Members. When you work with a team that succeeds like that, it makes you feel that together we can make Horizon Credit Union an awesome financial institution that people will actually enjoy using.”

Your security and your privacy are one of the most important day – to – day concerns at Horizon Credit Union. Whether it is a technology issue, an online system, a mobile application, or any other connection to your finances, Jeff is consistently working behind the scenes with multiple vendors to ensure smooth delivery and data encryption for a safe transaction. Jeff has a passion to do it right the first time and will respond immediately when needed to solve a problem.

Jeff is a Kingsport native and is a truly talented member of our team. For twenty years he’s worked and performed all over the country and when he’s not on the job at Horizon Credit Union, you can find him on a stage with one of his many musical projects, including “Hundred Acres”, “Real Life Heavies” and the “Fabulous Flying J’s”
