Who Can Be A Member?

Horizon Credit Union defines a member as a shareholder. Each member is required to have a “share” account with a minimum balance of $5. This minimum share balance entitles you, the member,to access all other credit union services and products.

With your one share, you join the other 5,000+ members in owning this credit union. Members elect a Board of Directors to serve during their elected term at the “Annual Meeting” held annually. In this election, YOUR vote makes the difference. Each member has one vote.

Horizon Credit Union is a state chartered credit union.

*Any employer in our service area (100 mile radius of Kingsport city limits) whose employees are not being served by another Credit Union, may, if they employ 3,000 people or less, sponsor the Credit Union for membership for their employees. After a letter of sponsorship is received and approved by the Board of Directors and the State of Tennessee, any employee of the company may then join the Credit Union. Once the employee has joined, then a family member may join. These employers will be added to the above list as they become sponsors.

*A family member is defined as a relative.

*Any Retiree of the above listed employers may join the Credit Union.

*An employee of the above listed employers must be a member of the Credit Union before any family member is eligible to join the Credit Union.
