Our Story
Horizon Credit Union is a member-owned financial institution in which its members can deposit and borrow money at better rates. They also have a voice in the operations via the election of a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors’ responsibility is to govern the direction of the credit union in regards to investments, loan and service products and the safety and soundness of the credit union.
At the heart of Horizon Credit Union is the philosophy of believing in our members and supporting them in their efforts raising their families, buying homes and vehicles, building retirement plans and making their dreams come true.
Horizon Credit Union is the product of mergers between three long-standing credit unions in Kingsport. Municipal Employees Credit Union began in 1932 and in April of 1999 merged with Kingsport Postal and Federal Government Employee’s Credit Union. A merger took place again in November 2014 with AGC Credit Union. The new name change of Horizon Credit Union became effective April 1, 2016 in order to reflect our increased field of membership and direction of the credit union.
Our success is determined by YOU, our members. It is our goal as a credit union to treat and serve our members to the best of our ability to achieve your life goals. There is no other reason for us to operate except for YOU!
